Mondo Macabro to release more Jess Franco films in 2012!

The great Mondo Macabro DVD label is reportedly releasing two more highly sought after Jess Franco titles later this year. This is extremely exciting news for Jess Franco fans and anyone who purchased Lorna the Exorcist and or Sinner knows that Mondo Macabro is treating these Franco releases with immense care and concern. Please support these releases so more can be possible in the future.

According to the wonderful site, I'M IN A JESS FRANCO STATE OF MIND, 2012 will see La Comtesse Perverse and Plasir A Trois released during the 2nd quarter of the year. These films were shot one after the other in 1973. I have not seen either of these films yet due to them being incredibly difficult to obtain though it comes from a peak period in Franco's long and utterly singular career. During the Robert De Nesle years, Franco tapped into arguably his most morbid and poetic imagery. A clear example of this can be found throughout Lorna the Exorcist, which is filled with haunting images and an intoxicating atmosphere throughout. I strongly feel that it was the single most important cult release last year.

If the world is truly fortunate enough and ready, the in the works Stephen Thrower book on Jess Franco will also arrive at some point this year. Last I heard it is titled Sadomania! A Guide to the Films of Jess Franco and is slated for release by the essential FAB Press imprint. Stephen Thrower is easily my favorite film journalist so it will be a great joy to read this book when it comes out. Any self respecting horror fan owes it to themselves to read the unbelievably thorough and insightful, Nightmare USA: The Untold Story of the Exploitation Independents along with Thrower's masterful text on Lucio Fulci, Beyond Terror: the Films of Lucio Fulci and finally The Eyeball Compendium, which compiles all of the Eyeball magazines and expands upon them.
